I’ve just arrived home from my friend Lisa’s wedding and I’m making a list of my all-time favorite girly movies. Why did a wedding prompt me to make a list of girly movies you might wonder? Well, it all comes down to my favorite memory from their wedding celebration.
How I Got This Idea!
As you would expect (from a western-style wedding anyway) there was a ceremony, a great meal, and an epic party that continued until the wee hours. It genuinely was a wonderful celebration and for some of us, a great opportunity to catch up with some old friends. But, if I’m being truly honest, one of my favorite memories from my dear friend’s wedding, was actually from the day after.
To provide some context, my friend got married near her (now) husband’s home town, a little over 2 hours away from Dublin where I live. As it was a two-hour drive, most guests stayed the night of the wedding at the hotel where they held the wedding reception.
On the day after the wedding, any guests who did not immediately have to travel home had gathered at a local pub from around 3 pm. And as Ireland produced a rare day of sunshine, the party continued sitting in that pub’s lovely beer garden, for most of the following afternoon and evening.
We had lunch and a few drinks and for a couple of hours during the continued celebration, the bride, her maid of honor and I ended up at a table together. While some of the guests were migrating indoors to a quiet corner of the pub, we stayed sitting outside in the sunshine. We literally chatted for hours, looking back on the joy of the previous day, reminiscing about old times and generally enjoying a “bit of banter”.

The “Lightbulb” Moment
At one point we were discussing how much we were enjoying just sitting catching up. We concluded that while dancing for hours and “knocking back shots” was fun, we were all at a point that a quiet afternoon or evening with a glass of wine (or gin and tonic as was the case here) was just as enjoyable, if not even more so. So we vowed to see each other more often even if it was for a quiet night in rather than a crazy night out.
And this my patient readers, is why I’m sitting here writing a list of my all-time favorite girly movies. I’m planning some serious girly nights in, in the very near future, and I want to be prepared with some low-key entertainment.
